Tired of having an unpleasant smell come from your garbage? Here are four tips on how to avoid having an unpleasant smell coming from your kitchen garbage.
According to an article at maidcleaningnashville.com, “Simple Tips to Removing Unpleasant Odors”
- “Bicarbonate: To remove odor and freshen the bin, sprinkle a tablespoon of baking soda in the bottom of the garbage bin and add a sprinkling of lemon zest or other citrus zest. Next place your garbage bag in the bin on top of the bicarbonate and zest. Remember to renew this mix weekly for best results.
- Citrus juice: For a fresh citrus scented garbage bin, pick your favorite citrus fruit (orange, lemon, grapefruit, etc.) and squeeze half a fruit into the bottom of your garbage bin. Let the juice dry completely before adding your bin liner over it. This method works best in bins with no holes; otherwise the liquid may escape and could stain your floor. Each week, renew the scent by cleaning with a damp cloth and applying fresh citrus juice.
- Tea Tree Oil: Combine one cup of water with 20 drops of tea tree oil and spray daily over the garbage bin. This will not only eliminate odors, but will also deter insect activity.
- Wipe with Cinnamon: This method works best with a double layer cloth, cut in half. Moisten the cloth and sprinkle a few shakes of cinnamon into the open space in the middle of the cloth. Place the cloth in the bottom of your bin, remembering to change regularly. Be sure to wash the cloths separately, as you don’t want the spices to stain your other washing. You can use this method to try out different scents as well, think interesting spices or citrus juices.” To read the entire article click here.
