With Mother’s Day around the corner have you picked out a gift yet? Well, let’s just say any mother would love a day or even a month free of White Lotus cleaning. How about giving your mother the gift of leisure with a clean home!
According to an article at blog.al.com, “What not to get your mom on Mother’s Day”
“Have no fear; you still have a couple days to save yourself from falling out of mom’s good graces by showing up with a dozen (fake) roses and a Swiffer mop you bought at a gas station.
Here’s what NOT to give her next Sunday:
Self-help books: “Happy Mother’s Day, here’s a self-help book about coping with your divorce.” Let me know how that works out for you.
Jewelry you made: Of course she’ll wear it, and when someone asks her where she got it (in hopes it was made by a starving Indonesian orphan she recently adopted) … she will have to say that the tangled heap of wire on her finger was made by her grown child, which will embarrass both of you. Unless you’re crafty, leave this one to the professionals.
Household items: Buy her that much needed vacuum cleaner or sewing machine on any of the other 364 days of the year. But she *NEEDS* one you say? Be a sweet child and buy her one out of the blue next week.
Homemade coupon books: Yes, this idea was cute. When you were 5!
Cooking lessons: No matter how culinary-challenged she is, never EVER go there. Ever!
Botox gift certificate: Wrinkles are inevitable, but steer clear from anything alluding to the fact that she’s aged since you left home. If you want her to feel beautiful, send her to the day spa.
Snuggie: Why don’t you just get her a big sign that says “All hail mom, the lazy couch potato.” Yes, they’re cute and comfortable. But not the best gift for the greatest mother on Earth.
Extra-large sweatpants: Unless you are absolutely sure of her size, stay away from buying her clothes. It’s a lose-lose situation. If they are too small, she’ll be disappointed and if they are too big, she’ll be offended.
Anything automotive: I’m sure those wiper blades or oil change don’t place very high on her wish list. Moms and car maintenance just don’t mix.
NOTHING: Because nothing says I love you like forgetting about the woman who spent years changing your diaper, packing your lunch and putting a roof over your head. Even if you have to buy her a last-minute gift, never show up empty handed.”
